    to cause to have splendid greatness, clothe in splendor, glorify, of the glory that comes in the next life (s. δόξα 1c) Ac 3:13 (cp. Is 52:13); Ro 8:30; B 21:1; J 7:39; 12:16, 23, 28; 13:31, 32; 17:1, 5, 10. It is a favorite term in J (s. Thüsing et al. s.v. δόξα, end), in which the whole life of Jesus is depicted as a glorifying of the Son by the Father: J 8:54; 12:28; 13:31; 17:1, 4 (cp. GCaird, NTS 15, ’68/69, 265–77) and, at the same time, of the Father by the Son: 13:31f; 14:13; 17:1. The glorifying of the Son is brought about by the miracles which the Father has him perform 11:4 (cp. PGM 7, 501ff κυρία ῏Ισις, δόξασόν με, ὡς ἐδόξασα τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ υἱοῦ σου ῟Ωρος; IAndrosIsis, Kyme 40 [s. also Peek’s comm. p. 63] spoken by the deity: οὐδεὶς δοξάζεται ἄνευ τ. ἐμῆς γνώμης), through the working of the Paraclete 16:14 and through ‘his own’ 17:10, who also glorify the Father 15:8, esp. in martyrdom 21:19 (on δοξάζεσθαι ἐν 13:31f; 14:13; 15:8; 17:10 cp.
